The utility-scale lithium-ion battery storage project planned near the Kyle Canyon Road–Interstate 11 interchange has yet to file required land-use applications, according to the City of Las Vegas.

The 400-megawatt Aoki Energy Center, proposed by Clearway Energy Group, drew attention last year when the developer announced plans for the facility near an existing electrical substation.
But city officials say the project has not yet entered the formal approval pipeline.
“This item is not currently on an agenda for action,” a city spokesman said. “Aoki has not submitted an application.”
The project would require amendments to the city’s General Plan, and such amendments are only heard quarterly by the Las Vegas Planning Commission. That makes July 14 the earliest potential hearing date.
Clearway Energy said development work is continuing under a revised schedule.
Clearway Energy said development work is continuing under a revised schedule.
“Though the timeline has shifted from our initial estimates, the project team looks forward to continuing work with community leadership and supporting local organizations as the permitting process unfolds,” a Clearway spokeswoman said.
The proposed facility would store electricity and release it back to the grid during periods of high demand.
Clearway said updates on the project will be posted at aokienergy.com.
EYES HAVE IT: Skye Canyon is about intentionality and lifestyle. And that’s never more true than at Fit Fest, the annual celebration of wellness and community.
Residents gather early on a spring morning to run, walk, connect and support our veterans. Others, though, are there to make a buck.
Visiting vendors at this year’s March 7 event took in the Skye Canyon area with fresh eyes that marveled at what residents see every day.
Downtown Las Vegan Cerra Johnson was there in her role as a brand ambassador for a national replacement window company.
“I like coming to this area because people really care about their homes,” she said. “Lots of families, dogs and views.”
Samantha Sierra, proprietor of the accurately named Truly Scrumptious catering truck, said awe-inspiring scenery made the ride from Henderson worth it.
“I love the mountains,” she beamed.
Her friend Brittney Agoncillo, a well-known cannabis executive, marveled at the Skye Canyon spirit, even on a blustery day.
“This is the difference that makes the difference,” she said, pointing to the crowded park. “It’s beautiful to see the community coming together.”
FAMILY EVENT: Spring arrives with horsepower and puppies at the Family Spring Fling on April 4 at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs. The free City of Las Vegas community event features a pet paw-parade, classic car show, rescue adoptions, vendors, food trucks and a DJ. Festivities run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 9200 Tule Springs Road.
