One of the things I try to do with this publication is to make it interesting and informative for the reader.

This past month, I reached out on a couple of Facebook pages devoted to Skye Canyon business to find interesting people to profile.
That’s where the article on Sherry Toly and her new business came from. There are others too, that will be printed in upcoming issues.
I have tunnel vision when it comes to the articles, but the advertisers in the publication can also be a source of information and interest.
I try to do is patron the advertisers when I need a service. This picture next to me shows that I wear glasses. While this photo is a few months old, if you saw me today, you’d see me rocking frames from Optic Gallery.
This brings me to another story about an advertiser. But it all starts about 10 years ago, back when Skye Canyon was in its infancy.
We had just gotten a Blue Heeler puppy. If you know these breeds, you know they can be a handful.
My wife had tied his leash to a drawer in our bathroom and he pulled the whole thing out and put a gash in our bathroom flooring. She covered it up with duct tape thinking that was a temporary fix.
Well, it’s almost 10 years later and that duct tape is still there. … and I’ve heard about it for 10 years.
But the other day, I was in between appointments when I had a thought.
“Hey, I have a flooring advertiser in the publication. I should go over there and check out the options.”
So I went to Beno’s Flooring on Farm Road and what do I see? Copies of several issues of 215News-Skye Canyon on the table.
My plan was to just go in as a regular customer who came in after seeing their ad, but it didn’t work. They recognized me from this picture.
I told them my story about the duct tape and they showed me some flooring options. We talked about the newspaper and the owner, Dede Beno, mentioned she remembered the View newspapers I used to publish for the R-J many years ago.
To make a long story short — and since this page gives me only a certain amount of space — we’re finally going to get rid of the duct taped flooring in our master bathroom.
