If you live in Skye Canyon, or really anywhere in Northwest Las Vegas, there is actually a decent chance Kevin Simons has sold you the mattress you’re sleeping on.
Simons owns and operates America’s Mattress at 6720 N. Durango Drive. He recently celebrated his one-year anniversary of his business. But prior to that he had a long and successful run at a different mattress shop in the northwest.

“Over the last 16 years, I’ve probably sold over 25,000 mattresses to people who live in the northwest part of town,” he said.
His previous success got him thinking about going off on his own. It didn’t take much convincing from his family.
“I didn’t think it would happen,” he said. “Then one day I just decided to go for it. I ran the crazy idea by my wife and she said, ‘Absolutely! Let’s do it!’ The rest is history.”
Business started slow, but Simons had one thing going for him. He’s very recognizable, especially to those thousands of people who had bought mattresses from him previously.
“I started putting my picture on the grocery carts at Smith’s (in Skye Canyon) with hopes that my former customers would find me. I have built a great rapport with the community over the years and knew that once they found me I would be busy. It took a long time to get the word out to the community to find me, but now business is picking up.”
Obviously, Simons learned a lot from his time in this industry and figured out what he needs to do to be successful.
“We value customer service above all else and go above and beyond to find the right mattress for your comfort,” he said. “We have the best-looking showrooms and pride ourselves on being clean and welcoming. We are the only mattress store in Las Vegas with a 5-star rating on Google. We really live by our motto, ‘I sleep good, when you sleep good.’”
It must be working as after only one year of operation, America’s Mattress has a second location. Simons recently added another shop at the northeast corner of Rainbow and Charleston boulevards. Interestingly enough, this spot was the exact location of the Mattress Pro store he started working at in 2006.
“I was looking for the second location and saw that exact location happened to be available,” he said. “I knew that it was meant to be. I do plan on expanding across the valley.
“Right now I do not have plans for another location, but I am always keeping my eyes open for a location that I think will make a great spot for the next America’s Mattress!”
Simons moved to Las Vegas in 1997 from Olean, New York, to attend UNLV. In 2001, he graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. He later moved back to Western New York for a short time to earn his MBA from Niagara University—something his late father used to joke was his “Mattress, Bedding and Accessories” degree.
After returning to Las Vegas in 2006, Simons began working at Mattress Pro, a small, four-store business. He quickly excelled and discovered a passion for the mattress industry. Since most people only replace their mattress every 8–10 years, they’re usually thrilled when they finally upgrade and start sleeping better.
Simons’ wife Cassie has been a dedicated teacher with the Clark County School District for 24 years. They have a 7-year-old daughter, and together they’ve embraced this new chapter as a family business venture.
