Wellness that lasts: Agentle start to the New Year

January 29, 2026 by 215staff

By Cheri Petroni

As the New Year begins, many people set resolutions around health and wellness. Their  intentions center around increasing energy, eating better (and releasing weight), reducing stress,  better sleep, or simply feeling better in their bodies.

These goals are meaningful, and they come from a genuine desire to feel good and live fully. Yet  for many, maintaining those intentions can feel harder than expected as the weeks go by,  especially if you are going solo.

If this has ever happened to you, it’s important to know this: it’s not a lack of discipline or  desire. It’s usually a lack of support and strategy. Most health resolutions fail because they  rely on willpower alone. Motivation is powerful, and temporary. Real, lasting wellness requires  something deeper: understanding how your body, mind, emotions, and daily habits work  together.

Research shows that while nearly half of adults make New Year’s resolutions, fewer than 10%  follow through consistently for the full year. Health-related goals are among the most  common—and also among the most challenging. By the end of January, roughly 40–45% of  people have already stepped away from their goals, often because life becomes busy and  stress levels rise.

When stress increases or energy drops, the nervous system naturally takes over. Old patterns  return—not because you’re failing, but because your body is trying to protect you. Without tools  to regulate stress and restore balance, even the best intentions can feel difficult to maintain.

People who succeed long-term tend to approach wellness differently. They focus on small,  realistic changes instead of drastic overhauls. They prioritize consistency over perfection and  support over self-criticism. They recognize that health is not just about diet or exercise, it’s about  caring for the Physical, mental, and emotional person.

If health or well-being is something you’re hoping to improve this year, know that support can  make a meaningful difference.
