Halloween began centuries ago as Samhain, a Celtic festival marking the end of harvest and the belief that spirits could cross into the living world. Over time, it’s grown into a celebration of imagination, mischief, and community.

Want to make this year extra fun without going overboard? Here’s how to keep it festive and family-friendly.
Spook Your Space
You don’t need pro props to make your home Halloween-ready:
• Floating ghosts – Cheesecloth over white balloons, hung with fishing line.
• DIY gravestones – Cardboard, gray paint, and silly names (“Al B. Back”).
• Window shadows – Cut monster shapes from black paper and backlight for a spooky glow.
• Haunted soundtrack – Looped eerie sounds bring everything to life (or afterlife).
Easy, Creative Costumes
Quick ideas that make people smile:
• “Static Cling” – Pin socks and dryer sheets to your clothes.
• “Bubble Bath” – White balloons + shower cap = clean fun.
• “Tourist” – Loud shirt, camera, map, and sandals with socks.
• “Error 404” – T-shirt that says “Costume Not Found.”
Beyond Trick-or-Treating
Make it a full family night:
• Backyard candy hunt
• Pumpkin carving party
• Driveway costume parade
• Movie night with spooky snacks
• Quick safety check
• Stick to well-lit paths
• Use glow sticks or reflective tape
• Check treats before eating
• Keep pets inside and calm
• If driving, slow down and stay alert—especially around kids
No matter how you celebrate, Halloween is a chance to get creative, connect with your community, and make some unforgettable memories. Stay safe, enjoy the night, and don’t forget to snap a photo of your costume!
